In the U.S., one case of breast cancer is diagnosed every 2 minutes, and every 13 minutes, a woman dies from breast cancer. <em>Breast cancer is the second highest cause of cancer deaths for women in the US and the number one cause for women between 40 and 59 years old</em>. African American and Hispanic/Latina women are more likely than white women to be diagnosed with more advanced stages of breast cancer, with African American women having the highest breast cancer death rates of all racial and ethnic groups. Next to the U.S. government, Susan G. Komen is the largest funder of breast cancer research in the world, and <em>Komen research grants have been involved in every major advance in breast cancer treatment</em>. Local Komen Affiliates fund education, screening, and non-medical treatment grants in the community, providing access to options that would otherwise be unavailable to people in need. We service 22 counties: Alamance, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Alleghany, Alexander, Catawba, Davie, Surry, Wilkes, Yadkin, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga &amp; Yancey.
